Tarhana (Netherlands)
The members of Tarhana live in the Netherlands, but the thing that brought them together (and after that at PLAI) were either the eastern roots of the band members, or their appetite for eastern sounds.
The band’s name, “tarhana”, comes from an Anatolian specific dish cooked from Bosnia to Turkmenistan and from Macedonia to Turkey. It has its own taste, unmistakably Oriental, but with a new, different flavor in each country.
The sounds bropught by the artists in Tarhana have echoes of the Ottomans, spiced with electronic Sufi groove, gypsy songs, traditional songs from Eastern Europe and the Maghreb rhythms. They call themselves “the tribe of nomadic music”.
A concert made possible thanks to The Honorary Consulate of the Netherlands in Timişoara.
