Traditional ska spiced up with Hungarian motives – an amazing combination that will surely make you dance!
Pannonia Allstars Ska Orchestra (PASO) is the traditional ska ambassador for Hungary and one of the most energetic young bands with distinct Eastern European roots.
PASO was created in 2003 and had numerous concerts in clubs all over Budapest and they were cheered by a growing local public. Over time, the band has crystallized its own form and style, reviving itself eventually as a ska group from Hungary on European stages. In 2005 they signed with Megalith Records (# 1 ska label in the U.S., which handles most ska bands in the world). Their debut album, “Budapest Ska Mood” was released by the record label that same year. “BSM” was followed by the “Babylon Focus EP”, the “Biblical 7” single on vinyl and finally the second full album, “The Return of the Pannonians” in 2007.
PASO interprets a deep-rooted traditional ska, spiced with a violin in addition to Hungarian flavour music, harmoniously keyed with reggae rhythms and jazz themes. PASO don’t seem to make a compromise between swing and tradition. From Germany to Ukraine, the band floods parties with incredible energy.
The bold priest, Lord Panamo (voice), joined the much acclaimed Hungarian ska drummer’s rhythms, Lipi Brown, who leads the orchestra accompanied by nine musicians, often in conjunction with other guests. PASO’s lyrics condemn discrimination and, while taking action on social issues, the band keeps up their fun-loving and cheerful attitude that makes the audience go crazy with broad smiles on their faces.
PASO started touring right at the beginning, so far singing all over the continent (Germany, Austria, Holland, Italy, France, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Denmark, Slovenia, Serbia, Ukraine, Belgium, Croatia and Hungary).
Tours and appearances at major festivals: Easter Ska Jam tour (2006), Budapest Ska Mood Tour (2006), Lowlands Festival (Netherlands) (2006) This Is Ska Festival (2007), Sázava Festival (Czech Republic) (2006, 2007) Festival Hodokvas (Slovakia) (2003, 2006), Mighty Sounds Festival (Czech Republic) (2005, 2006), X3Music Festival (Ukraine) (2005), Donauinsel Festival (Austria) (2006), Big SkaLand Festival (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007). Participating at all the famous festivals in Hungary, they gathered everyone in front of the World Music Mainstage at Sziget Festival (2006, 2007).
They shared the stage with some of the greatest , including The Skatalites, Jimmy Cliff, Alton Ellis, Rico Rodriguez, New York Ska-Jazz Ensemle, Slackers, Victor Rice, Aggrolites, Bad Manners, Rotterdam Ska-Jazz Foundation, Dr. Ring-Ding, King Django, Toasters, Open Season, Mr.T-Bone, Firebug, Babylon Circus, Intensified, Westbound Train, Moon Invaders, Trojan Sound System and many others.
