Al Di Meola played in Timişoara for the first time on PLAI Festival’s stage, alonside the renowned percussionist Gumbi Ortiz. With an artistic career of more than 25 years, Di Meola is one of the most virtuous artists of contemporary instrumental jazz world. In addition to a prolific solo career, the guitarist has been involved in several successful collaborations with artists like Jean-Luc Ponty (violinist), Luciano Pavarotti, Paul Simon, Phil Collins and guitarists Carlos Santana, John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucia.

Gumbi Ortiz: Exceptional drummer, he played over the years with big jazz names such as Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Dizzy Gillespie and Gato Barbieri. In addition to various collaborations, Gumbi Ortiz also has a solo project. He has been accompanying Al Di Meola on tours for over 19 years.
