In 1997, Warsaw Village Band was a group of friends with a passion for traditional Polish music and with an album – “Hop To It”.
In 2002 their international career began, after recording the album “People’s Spring” at the German Jaro label. The reaction of the German crowd to this album was amazingly good and from then on Warsaw Village Band have been propelled to the international worldmusic scene.
In 2004, the band was awarded the prestigious BBC Radio 3 World Music Award in the “best newcomer” category. In the same year, they received the European Broadcasting Union Award for best recording of traditional music. In 2004 they recorded a successful album, “Uprooting”, received the Polish “Fryderyk” for best album of traditional music and were in the top 10 worldmusic Grammy-nominated. In 2006 the BBC made a documentary about the band’s history, under the title “Voyage.”
The journey started 14 years ago will bring them in Timisoara on Saturday, September 17, 2011.
